GDP growth calculator
Growth between two years is (end − start) / start; stretched over n years it becomes a CAGR. This version reads real published GDP figures instead of asking you to type them — pick a country and two years, and the arithmetic happens against the exact World Bank values.
How to use it
- Choose the country and the two years you care about.
- The tool reports the period growth, the compound annual rate, and what that pace would double in.
- Manual override: clear the country to type your own start and end GDP.
FAQ
Is this nominal or real GDP?
The series here is nominal GDP in current US$ (NY.GDP.MKTP.CD). Growth computed from it mixes price changes with volume changes; for inflation-adjusted comparisons use a real series from the World Bank directly.
Why does my 2020 result look odd?
Pandemic-year GDP fell in most economies. The tool reports what the published figures say — including contractions — rather than smoothing them away.
Can I compare two countries' growth?
Yes, run the calculator once per country, or use the country comparison tool to see both curves and the overtake year on one chart.
