CAGR calculator
The compound annual growth rate is the single yearly rate that would take a starting value to an ending value over a number of years: CAGR = (end / start)1/n − 1. Use it on your own numbers, or load a published series and compute its CAGR between any two years without typing a thing.
Manual mode
Or compute it from a published series
How to use it
- Manual mode: type a start value, an end value and the number of years between them.
- Site mode: choose a country, indicator and two years — values load from the series published here.
- The result panel shows CAGR, the total growth multiple and the implied doubling time.
FAQ
Why is CAGR different from the average of yearly growth rates?
CAGR is geometric: gains and losses compound. A series that rises 50% then falls 33% has an average yearly change of +8.5% but a CAGR of exactly 0% — which matches the flat endpoint.
What if the start value is zero or negative?
CAGR needs a positive start (it is a ratio raised to a fractional power). Growth rates and absolute change still work for such series; this tool says so instead of returning a misleading number.
Can I use it for revenue or subscribers, not just countries?
Yes — manual mode accepts any positive values. The site-data mode simply saves you the typing when the series lives here.
